White Pitcher Plant flower (White-topped Pitcher Plant)
Sarracenia leucophylla (Ericales - Sarraceniaceae), the White Pitcher Plant, has large, nodding flowers of a deep red, and having a sweet scent. Borne on a long, slender, leafless stem, each flower consists of five colorful, petal-like sepals, in addition to the true petals, which hang below. The pistil is an unusual and distinctive umbrella-shape.
This carnivorous plant is native to the United States and can be found in wet savannahs, from northeastern Florida to eastern Mississippi.
